His visuals narrate the concealed, where X-rays of his own body or detailed macro photographs of individuals' eyes are transformed into intimate self-portraits, conveying metamorphoses in symbiosis with the beauty of the floral form. He cultivates precious flowers and transfers them as superimposed structures onto the X-rays in an attempt to preserve their splendour and create a dialogue with the human body.
Romano’s lambda print Formas, from 2008, portrays an X-ray of his skull with three sunflowers layered in the cranial cavity, reflecting on healing and a positive mind. Often, skulls are perceived by various ancient cultures as a symbol of death and rebirth. Other cultures consider skulls as a sign of good luck, a protection against evil spirits, and to ward off diseases. Regardless of skulls carrying a personal meaning or not, they have been an iconic fashion trend for some time and appear to be adored for the subsequent future.
