Backman’s photographs represent the female character Aino, who was well-known for her wisdom and songs. The legendary 19th-century manuscript Kalevala comprises a selection of Aino’s songs along with Finnish and Karelian folk poems, narrating one of the oldest themes: the creation of life on Earth. The collection was compiled by Elias Lönnrot, a Finnish physician, botanist, linguist and poet.

Backman’s visual experiment draws upon traditional Springtime symbols, centring around the reawakening of life, the long winter has passed, and a new cycle begins. Her photographs are a poetic journey expressing the mixed emotions we carry as we enter the spring season, besides leaving behind a year of isolation due to several lockdowns. All our hope is focused on the anticipation of positive outcomes concerning events and circumstances in one's life or the world at large.
