We have read and heard of artists who have sent their creations outer space or placed them onto the surface of the moon.
August 2021, an unmanned Blue Origin mission sent and returned three paintings by the Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo. The painted panels covered the rocket nose and depicted the artist's mother and his best friend. It was the launch of the first in the series 'Suborbital Triptychs'.
Jeff Koons 'Moon Phase' project, comprises one hundred twenty-five mini sculptures of the moon in various phases, each inscribed with the names of influential people throughout history, from Hippocrates to Andy Warhol. After their lunar landing in 2024, these small works stored in a cube remain in perpetuity on our closest celestial neighbour.
These are only two art in space projects, there have been others and there are more to come. Don't concern yourself with ‘humans on Mars’; art exhibitions on the interplanetary and interstellar space, admired by aliens are the latest development. The curation and installation will be executed by gravity, dark matter, worm, black holes and so on nor do we require conservation and fine art logistics, essential is the registrar with a quantum computer database for location updates at warp speed; I happily volunteer.
