Rent free studios and accommodation, focused time for research and the development of a new body of work are some of the benefits. Each residence programme differs, the artists must read their contracts carefully to understand their responsibilities and the costs the residency covers.
The images show Emma Witter, who is completing her six-month live/work residency with Selfridges and Picton Studios next week. She talked about her latest ideas, material studies and the collaboration with the Japanese silver smith Shinta Nakajima , the bioengineer Dr Michelle Oyen and her PHD student Ethan Knorr to create the piece ‘A Union Shall Be Thrown’ for Gallery Fumi’s group show “TOGETHER” which is open now until 12th November 2021. Furthermore, she works on sconces with eggshells and copper electroplated beetles for a group show in a church crypt in Sweden curated by Nikodem Calczynski. @dem.och.nik
