Earlier this year during the museum study course at Sotheby’s Institute of Art London, I arranged a field trips to Blythe House. I visited the facility with a group of students where we encountered this training chair, perhaps demystifying the romantic view of space exploration.

The described item is a NASA Flight Simulator Chair and was used to train astronauts at NASA’s Johnson Space Center to operate the Space Shuttle’s remote manipulator arm and manoeuvring thrusters. Depending on training requirements the chair’s software would be changed.
