Sotheby’s Institute of Art presents “Decolonising the Museum, Disentangling Our Past”, a lecture on the tainted facets of British history. From the violence and the exploitation of indigenous communities to the progress made in the museum and in the art world, the event aims at exploring the links between our tragic past and its repercussions in the present.

Marenka Thompson-Odlum, who I had the pleasure to meet during the talk I moderated at the London Art Fair, will be the guest speaker. Marenka is Research Associate at the Pitt Rivers Museum, researching on the Labelling Matters project, which investigates the problematic language used is museum displays, analysing methods of decolonisation through re-imagining the definition of a label.
